Oil of the Week (11.16.2020) Cedarwood

Cedarwood, Atlas (Cedrus atlantica) comes from Morocco and North Africa. The oil comes from the stumps of the tree which are ground to sawdust and wood and both are steam distilled to make the oil. It is a base note, meaning the scent lingers and resides in the background of blends.

I chose cedarwood this week as it pairs nicely with the card of the week as it is also associated with the element of fire.

Physically, cedarwood assists in respiratory and skin ailments. It is great for itchy scalp and dandruff! It is a lymphatic stimulant meaning it encourages the movement of lymphatic fluid where blockages can cause many problems.

Emotionally, cedarwood can regulate the nervous system and decrease our fight or flight response, so it's use for stress is helpful. It can give us confidence with feelings of fear, anxiety, and anger while decreasing their intensity.

Energetically, as I mentioned above, cedarwood is associated with the element of fire. It can enable us to feel determined, confident, wise, and resourceful. Like Jenny mentioned, this seems like a great combo with our card of the week to look into new endeavors!

Be well this week, diffuse some cedarwood in your workspace or meditation space, and prepare to be inspired!
