Oil of the week: Eucalyptus

This week with the energy of the full moon and the changing of the seasons I chose Eucalyptus essential oil.

Eucalyptus EO comes from the steam distillation of the leaves of the Eucalyptus tree. There are over 700 species of Eucalyptus but the most common used for essential oils are E. globulus, E. radiata, E. australiania, E. smithii, and E. citriodora. The oil is a top note and highly odiferous meaning the scent will come through strongly and dissipate quickly.

Physically, eucalyptus is a respiratory powerhouse! Think all things cough and congestion and eucalyptus is your oil! It is also great for preventing insect bites and treating them. Use in all things spring and summer as you start to enjoy your time outside! It can also support circulation so that means great for wounds, headaches, etc.

Emotionally, eucalyptus encourages the balance of our energy and emotions, which is great as we enter this time of renewal and stepping out into the "new" world with not only the longer days and warmer weather, but the reopening of activities around the world. Also, eucalyptus can dispel feelings of moodiness, stress, tension, self-blame and exhaustion while supporting concentration and alertness. It is great for those of us doing work and school from home!

Energetically, eucalyptus is associated with the energy of the moon and with this week starting with a full moon, use of eucalyptus can have a positive subtle effect on your body, both physically and emotionally. It can help raise your energetic vibration when used in conjunction with the phases of the moon. Avoid using at night, especially if you have trouble sleeping as it can make you feel more awake. Eucalyptus can also create feelings in us of harmony, trust, vitality, healing, centering, and purification.

Eucalyptus blends well with any citrus and together those combinations can be very uplifting and motivating!

Enjoy your week and happy oiling friends!
