Oil of the Week: Pine

Pine is the oil of the week this week, in particular Scotch Pine (Pinus sylvestris).

Pine essential oil comes from the steam distillation of the needles of the pine tree native to North America and Northern Europe.

I choose Pine this week for several reasons. First, this is the time of year for diffusing pine or using it as a room spray in our homes, especially for those of us like me who live in a warm climate with minimal trees. It really makes my home feel like the winter holidays. Secondly, as our card of the week points us to embrace who we are and know things are working out as they should, pine essential oil can help us with our self confidence, self image, and self awareness. Lastly, as you know my happy place is in the trees. This week, I need more happy surrounding me as it is the 10th anniversary of my husbands' death and I need a whole lot of happy feels. I diffuse Pine and immediately am taken to our favorite places in the mountains and it really helps my own self care and self love to get me through the difficult emotions of the week.

Physically, pine is helpful with stimulating the immune system and providing respiratory, muscular and energy support. It can refresh our tired bodies and minds and stimulate circulation to the body and the brain.

Emotionally, pine supports and improves mental fatigue and stress conditions. It can also improve the ill feelings associated with emotional exhaustion. Who couldn't need a little relief from all this right now?!

Energetically, pine can clear the environment of negative energy and feelings, help with focus during meditation, and help alleviate hopelessness. As mentioned above, pine can promote alertness to tasks but also alertness to ourselves, making self-awareness more clear while promoting feelings of self confidence and a positive self image.

This oil is inexpensive and readily available. I highly encourage it's use not only right now but as we continue through the winter months!
