Oil of the week: Elemi
Happy holidays to you and yours. Looking forward to welcoming in the positive energy surrounding 2021 this week. I have been a bit removed for the last couple of weeks due to some family issues but am happy to be back this week bringing to you a new oil!
Elemi (Canarium luzonicum)is an essential oil that comes to us from the evergreen tree of the same name, native to the Philippines. The oil is steam distilled from the resin that is emitted from this tropical tree. Elemi has a lemony, balsam type odor. It is a middle note that blends well with other oils such as frankincense, myrrh (from last week), lavender, rosemary, sage and spicy oils. Elemi itself to some can have a spicy scent as well.
Physically, elemi is great for our skin. It can also provide respiratory support by providing relief from congestion when inhaled. It provides immune support by stimulating the thymus gland and can improve circulation.
Emotionally and spiritually the benefits of elemi are numerous but the effects in these areas are why I am pairing it with our card of the week this week, Radha. Since Radha encourages us to rediscover ourselves, maybe something hidden away or something we know we need to return to, elemi can support the relief of stress and especially restful and productive sleep. With these two components it supports our mood to feel calm, compassion, peace and contentment. As Jenny mentioned, Radha also encourages us to maybe rekindle or give love to relationships that may be difficult or those with which we need to give some attention to. Elemi can help with this by assisting us with visualizations and connecting us to our inner feelings and feelings of deep peace as we contemplate not only the relationship with self, but also our relationships with others. Elemi also helps to balance our upper and lowwer chakras, and can be especially helpful when used in conjunction with modalities that are healing to the chakras as well, such as Reiki.
I feel like the cards and oils of the week this past month are really encouraging us to take advantage of staying at home in a productive way, providing self care and self love to encourage our better selves emerging from this pandemic into a new year of hope and possibilities.
Happy New Year and may you find peace, rest, and reflection the rest of the week. XOXO
